Charlotte Bailey Rierson Watercolor Exhibit & Reception

June 20 - July 31, 2008
Artisan Charlotte Bailey Rierson of Fairfield Bay will exhibit a collection of watercolor portraits depicting life in Arkansas in the Magnolia Room through the month of July. Rierson's paintings have been selected to be in the permanent collection of the Historical Arkansas Museum, University of Central Arkansas, Clinton Presidential Library, Arkansas Art Council’s Small Works on Paper, Ozark Medical Health Center, and private collectors nationally.

There will be a meet and greet reception for the artist on Thursday evening, July 10, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Room. Cookies and punch will be served.

Tuesday Tea: "All-American Tea"

July 8, 2008
Celebrate Independence Day (a little late) at this star-spangled tea party! We'll serve specialty teas, gourmet scones, finger sandwiches, and an array of scrumptious desserts in the Magnolia Room or on the Garden veranda (weather permitting). Tea time is 3:00 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month. Price for GWG Members is $15 and Non-Members $18 (plus applicable tax). Seating is very limited so make your reservations early by purchasing tickets online or by calling 501-262-9300/800-366-4664.

Gardening 101: Shrubs and Ornamental Grass

Exploring the intricate makings of a beautiful garden is the aim of a series of free workshops being held in the Gardens' Magnolia Room through November.

Shrubs, morning session: 9-11:30 a.m. Presenter: Jimmy Robbins
Ornamental Grass, afternoon session: 1-3:30 p.m. Presenter: Gene Lichliter

The workshop is free of charge to GWG members or those previously registered as volunteers at the Gardens. The public will be subject to Garden Admission fees, which are $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors. Space is limited. Register today by calling the Gardens’ administration office at (501) 262-9300 or (800) 366-4664. Don't forget to bring a sack lunch!

"Cultivating a Field Guide" - Sunday Summer Learning Lessons for Kids

Garvan Pavilion

Part of the Sunday summer learning series, Birds, Bees, Butterflies, and Blossoms – Pollinating Positive Partnerships. During this exploration of the Gardens children will chronicle the places where pollinators get their food, shelter, and water in a discovery journal. They will also look at sites where pollinators reproduce.

Pre-register for the Free lesson by calling the administration office at 501-262-9300. Registration is for one child and two adult family members.

The series of educational lessons were made possible thanks to a grant from the Hot Springs Area Community Foundation. The grant was given in honor of Pat Lile, recently retired president and CEO of the Arkansas Community Foundation.

Anthony Chapel

Designed by Jennings + McKee Architects, headquartered in Fayetteville, AR, the Anthony Chapel is an amazing work of art created to capture the beauty and natural elements of the dense woods and 4 1/2 miles of Lake Hamilton shoreline surrounding it . The soaring 57-foot, open-rafter ceiling, supported by massive pine columns and crossbeams, is sure to enhance the floor-to-ceiling windows and flagstone floors. The inspiring Anthony Chapel is beautifully complimented by Garvan Woodland Gardens, Arkansas' premier location for memorable family events.

  • Evans Celebration Garden

    This one-acre landscaped masterpiece will offer a lawn area ideal for weddings up to 80 guests. The area is surrounded by birch trees, hydrangeas, and colorful annual plants. A stone bridge and water feature will provide an elegant setting for photographs.

    $350.00 - 2-hour minimum
    $100 per additional hour

    Rehearsals

    Rehearsals are complimentary if held during regular Garden operating hours - 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 1 to October 31 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. November 1 to March 30. Extended hours of operation are implemented during the annual holiday lights festival scheduled from mid-November through December 31.

    After-Hour Rehearsals
    $200 per hour

    ** Rate includes use of the Millsap Bridal Hall and Evans Groom's Quarters as dressing areas for the bride, groom, and their attendants.

    Reception Areas

    Garvan Woodland Gardens offers several lovely sites to accommodate wedding receptions from the lavish to the informal. Please note that all rental rates are for a maximum 4-hour time allotment.

    Millsap Bridal Hall


    Millsap Bridal Hall

    This venue will accommodate about 80 people for a reception and/or 40 people seated at round tables with eight (8) chairs per table.

    $500 - 2-hour minimum
    $125 per additional hour

    Price includes tables, chairs, and labor for setting up event.

    Edmondson Great Lawn

    The focal point of the Gardens, the Edmondson Great Lawn, is encircled by the Flowering Border, an English style garden, planted with a variety of colorful, seasonal plantings, butterfly shrubs, and evergreens. The immaculate lawn will accommodate 300-400 people for a reception.

    $1,500 * - 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    $2,000* - 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    Designed by internationally recognized architect, E. Fay Jones, the Garvan Pavilion will accommodate up to 120 guests under roof with additional seating available on the outside perimeter.

    $750 - 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

    Located adjacent to the Pratt Welcome Center, this area will comfortably accommodate 150 to 200 people for a reception.

    $500 - 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    $750 - 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.




    Pratt Welcome Center

    This venue will accommodate approximately 175 to 200 people reception style and 120 at round table, eight (8) chairs per table.

    * To rent this venue, Rola-Trac is required at an additional cost to protect the lawn from damage caused by tables, chairs, and foot traffic. See Equipment Rental List for fees.

    Anthony Chapel and Reception Area Guidelines

    • No decorations of any kind will be allowed in the Anthony Chapel, except floral arrangements.

    • Nothing can be adhered to any part of the chapel structure, including walls, windows, doors, floors, beams, pews, lighting fixtures, and vestibule. The same applies to the Millsap Bridal Hall and Evans Grooms Quarters.

    • The Anthony Chapel will seat 160 people. Additional seating will not be allowed in the aisles or at the back of the building.

    • Absolutely no smoking is allowed in any Garvan Woodland Gardens venue, including the Gardens themselves.

    • No food, beverages, or gum will be allowed in the Anthony Chapel.

    • Designated times for rehearsals, ceremonies, and receptions will be strictly enforced.

    • Garvan Woodland Gardens is open to the public 50 weeks of the year, meaning Visitors will have access to areas of the Gardens where receptions may take place.

    • Acoustical music is always welcome at Garvan Woodland Gardens. Strings and wind instruments can add to the enjoyment of the day. Taped and amplified music must not distract or be offensive to the Gardens' non-wedding visitors or be unreasonably loud.

    • Due to heavy visitation at the Gardens during certain seasons, parking may become a problem. Wedding participants and guests are encouraged to car pool. Limited parking spaces are available near the Anthony Chapel.

    • All details relating to the wedding ceremony and/or reception must be conveyed to the Gardens' wedding supervisor at least two weeks prior to the scheduled event. This includes names of florists, caterers, the wedding planner, and the officiant.

    • Absolutely no glitter or confetti is allowed in the Anthony Chapel, Millsap Bridal Hall, Evans Groom's Quarters or any venue within the Gardens.

    • If flower attendants drop petals preceding the bride's walk down the aisle, no matter which venue is being used for the ceremony, it is the responsibility of the wedding party to remove the petals at the conclusion of the ceremony or before departing the Gardens.

    • The only celebratory item that can be thrown during the departure of the bride and groom is bird seed. Other options include a bubble machine or flower petals.

    • If any venues are not left clean and litter-free, a $100 clean up fee will be assessed. This also applies to caterers who use the Welcome Center and Millsap Bridal Hall catering kitchens.


    • Evans Groom's Hall
    • Food service must be provided by a preferred Garvan Woodland Gardens caterer that is licensed by the State of Arkansas and holds required tax permits and liability insurance coverage. Wedding cakes and punch are the only exceptions. Glassware and china are NOT allowed in the Gardens or its structures, excluding glass flutes (one each) for the traditional wedding party toast at the reception and glass containers provided by the caterer for serving food.

    • The use of alcoholic beverages must be approved by the Garvan Woodland Gardens' wedding supervisor .* Security may be required at the expense of the wedding party. Alcohol may be served but not sold. Garvan Woodland Gardens accepts no liability for the actions of the group or its guests at alcohol related events.

    * The wedding supervisor is an employee of Garvan Woodland Gardens and should not take the place of a wedding planner. Supervisor responsibilities include event set up and tear down, coordination among florists, caterers, and other vendors. The wedding planner is the responsibility of the wedding party.
